Mercedes-Benz logo


Mercedes-Benz is a luxury automobile brand of the German manufacturer Daimler AG. Mercedes-Benz’s origins can traces to 1886, the first Mercedes-Benz brand name vehicles were produced in 1926, following the merger of Karl Benz’s and Gottlieb Daimler’s companies into the Daimler-Benz company.

The ‘Mercédès’ is a Spanish girl’s name meaning ‘grace’, was the Austrian businessman Emil Jellinek’s daughter born in 1889. On 1902, ‘Mercédès’ was lodged as the trade name and this was legally registered on 1903.

The three-pointed star symbol was origins made by Gottlieb Daimler, who had been technical director of the Deutz gas engine factory from 1872 until 1881. The three-pointed star was supposed to symbolize Daimler’s ambition of universal motorization – “on land, on water and in the air”.
