Founded in 2002, 3 brand was owned by Hong Kong based investment holding company Hutchison Whampoa.

The Hutchison 3 logo was designed by a Hutchison branding team that led by Doug Hamilton and Keith Kirby who together worked on Orange. Doug Hamilton is currently the Creative Director at Hutchison Whampoa, and he was the creative Director of Wolff Olins from 1994 to 2001.
