Founded in 1887 as Albert Heijn grocery store in Oostzaan, Koninklijke Ahold is a Dutch international retailer based in Zaandam, Netherlands.

The compnay in 1973 changed its name to “Ahold”, an abbreviation of “Albert Heijn holding”.
