3M logo Evolution

The current 3M logo and identity system are now more than 30 years old. The logo is still “simple, bold and smart,” but the identity system has been evolving. In 2007, a new identity system was developed by Franke+Fiorella, a Minneapolis based brand identity firm. The brand identity system relies on the consistent usage of three essential elements: 1) 3M red logo on a white background; 2) Helvetica Neue Condensed typography; and 3) 3M montage. The system offers flexibility in how a business unit can tell its story in a distinctive and memorable way, while maintaining consistency in connecting to the global 3M brand.
